Snorkelling and Free Diving
Snorkelling; is the practice of Swimmimg on or through a body of water while equipped with a diving mask, a shaped tube called a snorkel, and usually Fins. And In cooler waters, a wetsuit may also be worn.
Snorkelling and Free-Diving Programs
Snorkeling is a popular recreational activity, particularly at tropical resort locations. The primary appeal is the opportunity to observe underwater life in a natural setting without the complicated equipment and training required for scuba diving.
It appeals to all ages because of how little effort there is, and without the exhaled bubbles of scuba-diving equipment. It is the basis of the two surface disciplines of the underwater sport of fin swimming.
Snorkeling is also used by scuba divers when on the surface, and in underwater sports such as underwater hockey and underwater rugby , and as part of water-based searches conducted by search and rescue teams.
Snorkeling requires no specialist training, only the ability to swim and to breathe through the snorkel. However, for safety reasons, instruction and orientation from an experienced snorkel instructor, tour guide, dive shop, or equipment-rental shop is highly recommended.
WARNING!
When you are looking to buy snorkelling equipment, please be careful as there are many low-cost and even dangerous products out there, especially beware cheap "Masks" which may have a glass lens, that is NOT "SAFETY GLASS", the words "Tempered" or "SAFETY Glass", should be printed or engraved on the lens area.
Fins should be a "Comfortable Fit" or you may risk cramping, they should be firm but not too stiff... and also very important the snorkel itself - Beware any snorkel with a low bore tube or any obstruction over the top (Such as ping pong balls etc.) as the best and most comfortable breathing will come from a large bore tube and a silicone mouth piece, not plastic or rubber.... We also offer "Rescue Swimmer" Courses...
If you choose a low volume or narrow bore tube you risk breathing large amounts of CO2 with each breath, which may lead to a black out!
ITDA offer a range of Snorkelling course programs from our non-diving training division, from Introduction to snorkelling as an "Experience Only Program" (non Certification) available as both a pool program and open water program, to "Basic and Advanced Snorkelling Skills", certification programs.
Ask a diving professional, dive leader or instructor for advice and only buy equipment from a shop that also sells scuba diving equipment, NOT a corner store, market or low-cost tourist shops...
About Snorkelling Programs
Our focus is a safe curriculum as the adult program has a greater range of skills under supervision and depth restrictions are less limited than our Junior Levels, certification is from just 14 years of age. Depth for Certification is from just 10m/33ft. to 30m/100ft. for advanced levels and free-diving for competitions maybe unlimited based on skills levels...
Instruction generally covers equipment usage, basic safety, what to look for, and what to look out for, and conservation instructions (fragile organisms such as coral are easily damaged by divers and snorkellers). Some organisations recommend that for snorkeling safety, snorkellers should not snorkel alone, but rather with a buddy or ITDA Instructor, "as a professional buddy", or ITDA guide or a tour group.
WWe are developing new theory lessons based on water safety and marine hazards (Jelly-fish Presentation FREE Download here!), marine life (Fish ID), plus skills in: Swimming with mask, snorkel and fins. Duck Diving to various depths from 3m/10ft. to 20m/66ft and beyond, plus the practice of surface rescue skills and CPR training.
Unique Benefits of ITDA Training
The ITDA are focused on higher quality training and have created a unique assessment and skills evaluation process based on our step system, building student knowledge and skills slowly (At Your Pace!) ... We also only issue certifications based on your actual ability level, sometime this means requiring more experience before higher level certifications are awarded. 98% of our programs are pass first time.../p
